Whanganui River - Drop Scene co-ordinates

Postby outward bound » 15-01-2012 14:00

Does anyone know the correct co-ordinates to best view the "drop scene" on the whanganui river?
I know, its much less obvious since the slip, but I would still like to have a crack at finding it. Floated down river several times over the years, and have failed to find it by eye.

I am not sure of the exact location but this may help?
A 2007 jetboat tour to the "bridge to nowhere".
This looks very close to the "Drop Scene"?
Photograph georeferenced to GPS tracklog.
We were travelling at 46kph and the GPS/camera times were probably not well synchronized.
Photo exif data and track point both recorded at 11:17:41 NZST.

Cheers for that. Surprised to see the words "drop scene" on the topo map , that in itself would probably be enough of a hint !

Unknown to me until metioned by the OP "outward bound' yesterday. :)

" 'Drop Scene', where a mountain seems to drop into the ground as one approaches and where, in certain light, the river appears to be flowing uphill. Sadly, the spectacle, which once drew tourists from the world over, is not now as evident since slips have modified the landforms."
