Google Earth Question

Postby Team TWS » 09-05-2007 13:31

I notice on google earth, when you move your pointer around it shows some GPS type cords..... But the format of them is different to what we use on geocache.com .

E 174° 44.222 for instance comes up with different numbers.....

I have looked in the settings and cant change it to this format.

Does anyone have any tips or ideas?

Cheers

The pointer at the bottom of the GE screen is in Degrees Minutes Seconds and decimal seconds. I don't think you can change it.

Though waypoints can be entered in DDD MM.MMM

Go to Preferences > 3D View > Show lat/long and you can select between ddd.ddddd, ddd mm ss and UTM. Unfortunately it doesn't yet support ddd mm.mmm which is odd given it is the default format for most GPS units.

Feel free to contact Google and let them know :)

It may be worth hassling Google to add it. You never know.

If you don't know what all these numbers mean - this thread discussed it in detail.

There's a handy little program called 'geocalc' that you can download for free which amoung other things allows you to display co-ords in a number of formats.
