Getting There - By Air

Postby rediguana » 01-11-2011 20:36

Just a thread to start capturing info about getting to the NZ MEGA 2012 by air.

To get it started, I'd note that tomorrow (2 NOV 2011), Air New Zealand will be accepting bookings for Monday the 22nd of October 2012. What this means is that you will be able to book return flights to and from the MEGA from tomorrow! Or to any other nearby centre that you may choose to - such as Invercargill, Queenstown or Christchurch.

I would like to book flights for the family this week while there are still cheap flights but want to clarify the dates/times first. The mega website says that it is a THREE day event over the 2012 labour weekend but it also says that the dates are 19 - 22 October (Friday to Monday) which is FOUR days so I am a bit confused. Are there any events planned for the Friday? Are you able to give any advice on best guess start and finish times for the Mega?

Of course we can :)

Friday 19th October- set up, register, welcome and icebreaker social
Saturday 20th October & Sunday 21st October - workshops, hangout social zone, stallholders, geocoin area, games and competitions, ancillary event caches,
Monday 22nd September - CITO, tear down, depart

The main events will be Saturday/Sunday, but there will be some on Friday evening, as well as Monday morning (CITO). Hence if you want to be involved in everything, the best plan is to arrive Friday afternoon, and depart sometime after lunch on Monday. Of course, there may be some additional ancillary event caches that pop up around the MEGA as well. The 3-day bit broadly covers the Friday evening through to Monday lunchtime.

A subgroup of the MEGA organising committee is meeting tonight to work through the first batch of FAQs - I'll add this one to the list so we produce a more formal answer :)
