Help! Looking to replace computor cable for my Garmin E-Trex (yellow model)
It is a serial cable type. Can some-one in Dunedin area help? Is the software
discs for these models still available? Does it work with Windows 7 ?

Hi - I can help with both eTrex to serial ($20) and eTrex to USB (via adapter) ($38) cables. I'm not in Dunedin but overnight Courier Post is $5. Get in touch if interested - thanks, Tony@kiwigps.co.nz

Thanks Tony. I will get in touch soon. Looks like I will be moving back to CHCH soon.
Trying to get things sorted out as I will be looking for a job again. Getting some
comments from other gps users that I should rather be upgrading than replacing the cable,
Still not sure about that as the old one is still in fine nick.

Depends what you use it for. If you spend any time in the NZ bush, then you'd definitely benefit from an upgrade to a high-sensitivity unit. The newer eTrex (10,20,30) have an additional bonus, in that they can now use the Russian GLONASS sats as well, meaning permanently better constellations and better satellite coverage as these come online this year. And USB connectivity is much easier as you don't have to worry about special cables, or installing drivers.

But if the current eTrex is meeting your needs - absolutely no reason to upgrade :)
