An unexpected bonus with the garmin lifetime updates promo

Bought myself a 3760 (and just luuuuurving the high res capacitive touchscreen!) (Thanks Tony) and have activated the lifetime free map updates on it. Fiddling with the map updater - as you do - I found an option to update just the nuvi, or just the pc, or the nuvi and the pc. Can't hurt, I thought, so I clicked it and re-updated.

I now have the latest Australia and NZ City Navigators installed in Mapsource as well as the Nuvi

I must admit I bought a Nuvi 2350 at Harvey Normans the other day. They were selling them for $199 including a watch and apparently 4 updates a year for life.

Reading the literature than came with it, it said it only comes with one update and only if it is done within 6 weeks of first acquiring satellites (which I've already done, again adding all the Au & NZ maps to mapsource on my computer).

I've kept their mailer that clearly states it comes with the updates, I hope it does cause it'll be easier on everyone if it does, but I am concerned it doesn't and I'll end up an unhappy customer looking for them to supply me with what they had advertised. I still haven't received the watch it came either... Must ring and enquire where it is.

Hi Neill, yes, your model is included in the Bonus Lifetime Update promotion. You can apply on-line here: http://www.garminredemption.com/garmin-redemption.asp?c=nz

Eligible models are nüvi 1250, 1260, 1350, 1390, 1490, 2250, 2350, 3750, 3760. You got a good deal that's for sure. I'm relieved to be rid of NZ new nuvi stock - that model would cost me $45 more than you paid.

Thanks Tony, absolutely no mention of needing to do that by the three Harvey Normans staff members I dealt with, nor in the documentation that came with it.

I hope others caught in the same circumstances don't get caught out.

Service? Who needs service? There should have been handy to the display an A4 sized tear-off pad with all the details, terms etc. including the link. The handy Garmin Lifetime Updater application let's you know when an update is available. Sometimes I get asked to match prices but decline, preferring to compete on service. However the big stores have a rather different price list for the nuvi range and of course their bulk buying is a big help so now, when someone wants a nuvi, I direct them to the latest best offer in the letterbox. Can still help with nuvi accessories and the free / commercial maps though.
