Sending caches from GSAK to PDA

Postby Annie & PB » 07-04-2009 22:07

Previously I have just dumped the whole PQ onto my PDA. Now I am trying to use some filters, and I don't know how to get just the caches the filter has selected onto the PDA. The caches selected are from several different PQs (done by date) all put together to make a database of the whole South Island.

Can some one explain?

GSAK has a very nice 'Export to GPX' function of whatever is in the current filter. I'm making the wild assumption that you use GPXSonar or similar on the PDA. Run the export (not sure where in v7 it is as I'm in the Stone Age still with v6 :-" ) and it will create a new file for you in the location\name of your preference.

Yup, what GSV said. Select your caches in your filter then choose File -> Export -> GPX/LOC file and create it from there. A few fields that you can change around to make tings easier for yourself, but get the basic one working before you try them (like changing the title of caches to reflect status of puzzles, or exporting the corrected co-ords instead of the original). If you use Cachemate on the PPC, then the cachemate Macro is pretty good as well.

I export the whole database as a HTML file, then drop that in to the pda - not sure that im barking at the right tree though in regards to your question! ;)

Does Version 6 not have free updates?

Nope - I paid my sheleks many many moons ago for an early version. V6 to V7 was considered to be the break and upgrades cost. If you'd only recently paid for v6 the upgrade wasn't too bad but this will be close to paying for the full product again.... probably worth it but I'm dragging my heels just a tad.

File > Export only exports the currently visible caches. If you have no filter it will export the whole lot, if a filter is selected, it will export the filter.

Haven't bothered finding the pda yet as at my first attepmt to filter I ended up with 3 from all the caches I haven't found in Christchurch. I was expecting a result considerably larger than that! Will have to keep working on what I have done wrong. back to the drawing board so to say.

What were the filter settings - the ones highlighted yellow?

I started off with one of the provided filters (Not Yet Found) and thought I would tinker with it to get what I wanted.
So the yellow ones are as follows:
Distance less than or equal to 120km
Difficulty less than or equal to 3.5
Terrain less than or equal to 3
Available status ticked available (but not the other two options)
Yellow sections on the log tab but didn't change any of them.

Ended up with Tour de Airport (multi), Woodend Water (Trad) and Arachnophobia (Puzzle)

Edit to add I have it centered on the puzzle cache at Canterbury Museum (seeing as I haven't done it yet and it was near the center of Chch)

Hmm, that "Not Yet Found" means pretty much that, caches that GSAK thinks haven't been found (by anyone) yet so it is returning roughly the right result. To fix, go to the Log tab and hit the "Reset Tab" button at the bottom to clear those restrictions then "Go" and you should get more results.

 and I thought it meant caches "Not Yet Found" by me. It came up with a result of 152, now one more tweek too remove caches I own and I'll be all set to try and get it onto the PDA (now where did I leave it)

Thanks everyone for your help, I really do appreciate all the knowledge and experience that everyone is willing to share (oh and patience)
