"Millon Dollar Pacer" & dog crap

Well tonight whilst I was at work I got a call from a concerned member of the public who had seen a car pull up, a guy get out and stash a package in the bushes across the road and then text on his phone before driving away.

I located said "package", and immediately saw geocache printed across the top so left it where it was.

I then went to see the lady who had been concerned and explained to her what geocaching was and that it was just a bit of fun.

This morning around 2am I decided to call in to the cache and log a find. To my despair someone had left dog crap in the container and written "find something better to do" in the log.

It doesn't take a genius to work out who would have been responsible.

Anyway I emptied out the dog crap, logged my find and put the cache back in it's hiding place.

If you are reading this and it is your cache get in touch with me via PM and I can arrange to check it from time to time. It isn't on geocaching.com yet so I can't leave any comments there.

NB - I'm also pretty sure that the guy that placed this cache was the same guy that I gave a speeding ticket to (description of vehicle and male were spot on) about 5 minutes after he would have placed the cache. Sorry about that and I hope it didn't ruin your day of geocaching

I'm just surprised one of our boys in blue offered an apology for issuing a speeding ticket!

I can see the CO lecturing him now and an increased quota

As for actions against that lady, best not. The best reaction we can have is to be extra vigilant in keeping the area around the cache clean and tidy, and come and go quietly. Let her build a positive opinion of her own.

Well, as the owner of "The Million Dollar Pacer" http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=ece92e3a-e083-4241-b99e-d2ef7cdfa09a I must agree with the creation of a positive opinion approach. Hopefully the lady concerned, who is quite protective of her neighbourhood, finds that having a cache doesn't impact at all and the issues will die down. If the issues persist I'll archive rather than persist, but that means my wee tribute to the worlds first million dollar racehorse will be gone forever [Sniff sniff]. I found out three months ago that there is a puzzle cache final location less than 10 metres from my front door and I have NEVER seen anyone collect despite hours of watching and waiting.

And yes yes, I did happen to get a speeding ticket shortly after leaving the cache site in MIghty Mataura. In my defensive I wasn't intentionally speeding, just being lazy, not paying enough attention to driving and thinking too much about finding the next cache. So I deserved it but it certainly didn't ruin my day.

Clearly I need some more stealth training though! Thanks to marmel for the assist and congrats on grabbing two FTF's this weekend! I'd keep an eye out on another Gore icon in the comng days...
