Good US provider with International shipping?

Postby The-Organist » 30-08-2011 21:36

Hi All,

I need to buy a nice new Garmin Nuvi with US Maps for a trip coming soon. Can anyone recommend a company who ships internationally, with whom you have had a pleasant experience?

Cheers,

Hi Martin, GPSCity are great to deal with. I got a few nuvi 1390LMT from there - these have Traffic and the US map of course and came with a LifeTime MapUpdate card which makes them much better value. $245 including GST if you're interested.

Hi Tony

Will give that some serious thought... Was considering buying NUVI 40 for US$119 which would work for a one-off trip, but even an older model with "lifetime maps" would meet requirements. Probably won't need the traffic feature, but how hard is it for me to set that up if we decided to use it?

Cheers

I've only used a Traffic unit in Brisbane as there is no signal here - for Garmin anyway - there's nothing to set up, the unit just receives info about road conditions and alerts to do a detour or such. We were not there long and never noticed any alerts.

"Traffic information is updated constantly, and map updates are available for download up to 4 times a year. Both features are ready to go, right out of the box, with no subscription or update fees and no expiration dates."

The GTM 25 traffic receiver uses a separate cable moulded to the power cable which is not the most elegant solution at all, making it about 9mm x 3mm with an in-line "black box" (65 x 19 x 12). A normal 3mm circular 12 volt to USB power cable could be used if Traffic was not required.

Can also vouch for GPS City - good service, quick delivery and good prices.

Huge props to GPSCity, who provided me with a new battery for my Nuvi 500 after being told by Garmin that I would have to buy a new GPS! Very cheap aswell which was a bonus
Thanks to this thread for putting me onto them aswell. :)
