NZ MEGA 2012 Associated Events

Hi all,

Naturally, with all the vistors coming down to Dunedin for NZ MEGA 2012, there are quite a few that are keen to have events in other cities and towns over that period. If you have any ideas for dates when there are going to be large groups in a certain location on dates either side of the Mega, let us know here, and we'll look at listing some official events on Geocaching.com under the NZ GPS Society account (which as well as the MEGA will have the CITO and Flashmob). We will also promote these ones via the newsletters (starting up in earnest again very soon).

Just remember that your traditional venues may not be up to handling some of these ancillary events, due to all the extra caching visitors around, so some careful thought may need to be given to venues and timing. You may easily get 2-3x the usual number of cachers.

To get the ball rolling, I'm aware of a few Australians arriving in Christchurch on MON 15 OCT, who have indicated interest in having an event with local cachers that evening. My personal thoughts are that that might be a good evening to have Christchurch event, and then progress south over the next couple of days as everyone homes in on the NZ MEGA 2012 GZ!

We really want to encourage and promote these though, particularly the ones in the week before the Mega, that will enable more cachers, especially our international visitors to meet up with local cachers, get advice and recommendations, make friends, and then do it all again at NZ MEGA 2012!

WOOHOO, fantastic.
Yes, we will be arriving on the 15th, and will not want to cook that night, so we are going to pay someone else to do it for us.
Oh, and the dishes as well.
We will be arriving mid morning with a group of Australians, will be picking up our campervan and finding somewhere in Christchurch to camp for the night and get the van stocked with goodies for the next two weeks of caching bliss.
So, we would love to have an event that night, but being from AUS we are not sure where, so we definitely would love all the help we could get to find a suitable venue.
We look forward to hearing your suggestions.

15th. We arrive on the 10th and will be well and truly entrenched in Dunedin by then.
